Review: HENRY ROLLINS' Self-Depreciating Humor Made Spoken-Word Performance Fun

Joe Heim of The Washington Post reviewed Henry Rollins' spoken-word performance at Lisner Auditorium Thursday night (Jan. 29).

"No spoken-word artist speaks as many words as Henry Rollins," he wrote. "He must hold some sort of record just for sheer number of syllables uttered. For nearly three hours Thursday night, the 42-year-old rocker and former frontman for BLACK FLAG stood on the otherwise empty stage at Lisner Auditorium and talked.

"And talked. And talked. It was well into Hour 2, it seemed, before he stopped to take a breath.

"So much verbiage might seem to ensure dullness, but the fascinating scrapple of Rollins's thought process and his self-deprecating humor (nearly pathological at points) made the time flit by." [Read more]
